ऋग्वेद संहिता (सरल हिन्दी भावार्थ सहित)

The Rigveda (ऋग्वेद) is the oldest of the four Vedas and the earliest surviving text of the Indian tradition. Its Samhita is arranged in ten mandalas containing more than a thousand hymns (suktas) addressed to Agni, Indra, Varuna, Mitra, Soma, Ushas, the Maruts, the Ribhus, the Vishvedevas and other deities, along with reflections on creation, generosity, marriage and society. Hymns such as the Nasadiya and the Purusha Sukta are often taken as the starting points of Indian philosophy.

This edition is by Dr. Ganga Sahay Sharma, a scholar with degrees in Hindi and Sanskrit and the title of Vyakaranacharya, published by Sanskrit Sahitya Prakashan, New Delhi, as part of a four-Veda set. Each hymn is headed by its number and deity, followed by the Sanskrit mantras and a simple Hindi rendering of their sense. A list of hymns, their subjects and the number of mantras is given at the front.

The Hindi is plain and close to everyday speech, which makes this edition a good first approach to the meaning of the mantras for readers not ready for a traditional commentary. The complete text, about 1,855 pages, can be read here page by page.
