The Madhava Nidana (माधव निदान), also called the Rugvinishchaya, is Madhavakara's treatise on the diagnosis of disease in Ayurveda. He gathered the diagnostic material scattered through the works of Charaka, Sushruta and Vagbhata into one ordered text, which became the standard Ayurvedic work on identifying illness. Each disease is examined through the five aspects of diagnosis: cause, early signs, symptoms, response to trial treatment and pathogenesis.

This scan is the July 2007 (Samvat 2064) edition of Khemraj Shrikrishnadas, Bombay, giving the Sanskrit verses with the Hindi commentary of Dattaram, son of Shrikrishnalal. The preface discusses the place of diagnosis, the patient, the physician and medicine in Ayurveda.

The detailed contents show the range of the work: fevers and their forms in the tissues, sannipata, diarrhoea, grahani, the varieties of breathing disorders, the effects of alcohol, epilepsy, defects of semen and impotence, among many others, with passages cited from Sushruta and others.
