सादृश्य ( noun ) वाचो and not सदृश ( adjective ) वाची
The rule prohibits the use of the Instrumental only
when the word तुला is सदृशवाची, hence it could be
used here. Cf 'अत्र तुलाशब्दस्य .. ..ग्रहणादिति,' the last
three lines of Mallinātha's commentary. Another anno-
tator of the rule also has expressed the same view—
•• 'अतुल्योपमाभ्याम्' इति तुला शब्दयोगे तृतीयानिषेधस्तु सदृ-
शार्थकतुलाशब्दयोगे एव, इह तुलाशब्दः सादृश्यवाचीति न
प्रवर्तत " इति । Bhoja also takes the same view Cf
'सदृशपदार्थवाची सादृश्यमात्रवाची चेति द्वौ तुलाशब्दौ । सादृ-
श्यमात्रवाचकतुलाशब्दयोगे तु तृतीयाऽपीष्यत एव ।' Some
commentators defend this by supplying सह after
दन्तवाससा । तुलां—साम्यम् equality, similarity आरोहति
—प्राप्नोति becomes, rises up to.
As Pārvatī was very fond of small plants, which
she loved like her sons, the inquiry into their well-
being is quite appropriate 34
CHANGE OF VOICE —अपि त्वदावर्जितवारिसंभृतेन आसां
वीरुधां प्रवालेन अनुबन्धिना ( भूयते ), येन चिरोज्झितालक-
कपाटलेन ते दन्तवाससा तुला आरुह्यते ॥ ३४ ॥
HINDI TRANSLATION :—तुम्हारे द्वारा दिये पानी से बढ़े
हुए इन बेलों के पत्ते लगातार तो निकलते रहते हैं ? जो ( पत्ते )
तुम्हारे इस ओठ के समान हैं, जो कि दीर्घकाल से लाख के रंग
के ( उपयोग के ) छूट जाने पर भी लाल हैं ॥ ३४ ॥
