66 बृहत्संहितायाम् [Adh. V. Sl. 70-72

the East, the Kosalas, the Kalmashas, the Surasenas,
people of Benares, all these will be affected The king
of the Kalingas along with his ministers and servants will
very soon meet with his end. Rahu will torment the
entire Kshatriyas. Other people will be happy and there
will be plenty all over the land.
काश्मीरकान् कौशलकान् सपुण्ड्रान् मृगांश्च हन्यादपरान्तकांश्च ।
ये सोमपास्तांश्च निहन्ति सौम्ये सुवृष्टिकृत् क्षेमसुभिक्षकृच्च ॥७०॥
Sloka 70.—If the eclipse happens in the month of
Margasira, people of Kashmir, the Kosalas and the
Pundras will suffer. The animals living in the forest and
the people of the West will perish. So also the Soma-
yajees. There will be good rain and people will be happy
and prosperous.
पौषे द्विजक्षत्रजनोपरोधः ससैन्धवारुण्याः कुकुरा विदेहाः ।
ध्वंसं व्रजन्त्यत्र च मन्दवृष्टिं भयं च विन्द्यादसुभिक्षयुक्तम् ॥७१॥
Sloka 71.—When the eclipse falls in the month of
Pushya, there will be trouble to the Brahmins and the
Kshtriyas. The Saindhavas, the Kukaras and the Videhas
will also suffer. There will be only small showers There
will be famine and panic.
माघे तु मातृपितृभक्तवसिष्ठगोत्रान्
स्वाध्यायधर्मनिरतान् करिणस्तुरङ्गान् ।
वङ्गाङ्गकाशिमजुजांश्च दुनोति राहु-
र्वृष्टिं च कर्षकजनाभिमतां करोति ॥७२॥
Sloka 72.—If the eclipse happens in the month of
