About this granth
Rasikapriya (रसिकप्रिया) is Keshavdas's Braj Bhasha treatise on the erotic sentiment (shringara rasa), written in the late sixteenth century under the patronage of Prince Indrajit Singh of Orchha. It became the model for describing types of heroes and heroines in Hindi Riti poetry, later poets followed its scheme, and its scenes were painted widely in Rajasthani and Pahari miniatures.
Its sixteen prabhavas treat the nature of rasa and the kinds of shringara, the types of hero, the companion and the messenger, the types of heroine and their gestures, the eight situations of the heroine such as one whose lover is devoted, one betrayed and one who waits adorned, the lover's pique and its appeasement, and love in union and separation. For each definition Keshav gives his own verses on Radha and Krishna.
This edition carries the Priyaprasad commentary of Acharya Vishwanath Prasad Mishra, the noted critic and editor of Riti poetry, and runs to 286 pages.
