Vedic precept 'a मधुपर्क should be offered with flesh.'

learned Brāhmaṇa (who has performed a sacrifice) a heifer, a
bull or a big goat मधुपर्क is a respectful offering made to a guest,
bridegroom or to other distinguished persons It usually con-
sisted of five ingredients curds, clarified butter, water, honey
मनुस्मृति enumerates the persons to whom मधुपर्क was to be offered

N. omits महाजं, but from the quotation given above it will be
seen that the reading in the text is proper.
the authors of Sūtras on religious observances lay down this
observance. धर्मसूत्रकारा —Sūtra is an aphorism, which is preg-
nant with meaning, though expressed in the most concise way.
A sūtra is generally in prose. सूत्र works were generally
divided into three kinds, श्रौत or कल्पसूत्र, गृह्यसूत्र and धर्मसूत्र.
