builder and a great scholar. Rarely has the
world seen such a combination of qualities in
one man, each of which would stamp a man,
great. It is wonderful how a great sovereign
like Maharana Kumbha, constantly engaged in
warfare from almost his childhood, could find
time and opportunities to become a great poet
and dramatist, a master of the science of
music, and write commentaries on Gita
Govind—one of the master-pieces of lyric
literature in the world—and books like Chandi
Shataka and Sangit Ratnakar, and a treatise
