stand independent of each other ; and in the latter (b),
by the two ideal figures, Simple and Poetic Fancy, stand-
ing independently of each other.
(c) As an example of the Collocation of a Verbal and
Ideal figure of speech, we have the following—
‘So ṇatthi ettha gāme jo eaṁ mahamahantalāaṇṇaṁ.
Taruṇāṇa hiaalūḍiṁ parisakkantīṁ ṇivārei.’
‘There is no one in this village who could restrain
this young woman loitering about with her exuberant
charm, captivating the hearts of young men’.
Here we have Alliteration and Metaphor, indepen-
dently of each other, and there is connection between
these,—as they both occur in the same sentence or the
same verse. 139.
LXI.—Saṅkara.—Commixture.
(a) When, however, there is a relation of subserviency among
the said figures of speech, which are incapable
of independent existence by themselves,—then it is
Commixture.
