ples of निदर्शना will come under गुणीभूतव्यङ्ग्य ; quoted also
by प्रतीहारेन्दुराज in his commentary on उद्भटालंकारसारसंग्रह.
उपमारूपकालंकारः (27)
उपमानेन तद्भावमुपमेयस्य साधयन् ।
यां वदत्युपमामेतदुपमारूपकं यथा ॥ ३५ ॥
35. Where the poet while establishing an
identity of an Upameya with an Upamāna, intro-
duces Upamā, the figure is Upamā-rūpaka. Exam-
ple follows.
35. उपमारूपक defined. We fail to see any dis-
tinction between this and रूपक. Moderns do not ac-
cept this Alaṁkāra. Perhaps in the view of our
author the poet lays emphasis on the Upamā aspect
rather than the रूपक in any passage illustrating this
Alaṁkāra.
समग्रगगनायाममानदण्डो रथाङ्गिनः ।
पादो जयति सिद्धस्त्रीमुखेन्दुनवदर्पणः ॥ ३६ ॥

yardstick to the entire expanse of the sky and a fresh
mirror to the moon-like faces of celestial damsels.
