About this granth
Beyond the Bhagavad Gita, the epics and Puranas contain many other dialogues called 'Gitas'. Gita Sangraha (गीता-संग्रह, Gita Press book no. 1958) gathers twenty-five of them, each with its original text and a Hindi translation.
The contents show the range: the Ganesha Gita from the Ganesha Purana; the Bhikshu, Paramahamsa, Hamsa and Avadhuta Gitas from the Bhagavata; from the Mahabharata the Shadja, Pingala, Shampaka, Manki, Ajagara, Harita, Vritra, Putra, Kama and Narada Gitas, a second Hamsa Gita and the Uttara Gita; two Yama Gitas from the Vishnu and Agni Puranas; two Rama Gitas from the Adhyatma and Adbhuta Ramayanas; the Bhagavati (Parvati) Gita from the Devi Purana; and the Ashtavakra Gita and Dattatreya's Avadhuta Gita.
Many of these are short teachings on detachment, contentment, self-knowledge and devotion, such as the courtesan Pingala's awakening or the sage who lives like a python. The copy here is the sixth reprint, of Samvat 2074, and its 675 pages bring these scattered texts together in one volume.

हेतु है, जो ऐसा जानता है (और मनके पार चला जाता है), वही वस्तुतः जीवन्मुक्त कहा जाता है ॥ २१ ॥
मन एव विदुः प्राज्ञाः सिद्धसिद्धान्त एव च ।
सदा दृढं तदा मोक्षो जीवन्मुक्तः स उच्यते ॥ २२ ॥
विद्वानोंने मनको ही जान लिया है। सिद्ध-सिद्धान्त भी यही है कि (साधनामें) मनकी दृढ़तासे ही मोक्ष प्राप्त होता है। जिसने इस सत्यको जान लिया, वही वस्तुतः जीवन्मुक्त कहा जाता है ॥ २२ ॥
योगाभ्यासी मनःश्रेष्ठो अन्तस्त्यागी बहिर्जडः ।
अन्तस्त्यागी बहिस्त्यागी जीवन्मुक्तः स उच्यते ॥ २३ ॥
मनसे अन्तर्वृत्तियोंका त्याग और बाह्यवृत्तियोंकी उपेक्षा करनेवाला योगाभ्यासी श्रेष्ठ है, किंतु अन्तः और बाह्य—दोनों वृत्तियोंका मनसे त्याग करनेवाला ही वस्तुतः जीवन्मुक्त कहा जाता है ॥ २३ ॥
