भैषज्य रत्नावली (गोविन्ददास सेन - सान्वय भाषा टीका सहित)

The Bhaishajya Ratnavali (भैषज्य रत्नावली) of Kaviraj Govind Das Sen is an Ayurvedic treatise on therapeutics, widely used by practitioners as a trusted collection of formulations. As the introduction to this edition points out, it gathers tested preparations of both kinds: herbal ones such as decoctions, powders, linctuses, asavas and arishtas, and mineral and metallic preparations from rasashastra, so that physicians of every level can use it.

The work proceeds disease by disease. Under each condition it gives the relevant formulations, for example decoctions of the five roots and the ten roots for fever, linctuses such as kutajavaleha, medicated ghee and oils, and remedies for hiccup and other ailments, with quantities of ingredients and methods of preparation.

This edition gives the verses with a Hindi commentary in prose order, enlarged, revised and translated by the late Vaidya Shankarlal, described as the author and commentator of many books. It was printed by Khemraj Shrikrishnadas at the Shri Venkateshwar Steam Press, Bombay, in Samvat 2009 (1952). At 1416 pages it is a reference work for students and practitioners.
